Dr. Engr. Arsalaan Khan Yousafzai

Dr. Engr. Arsalaan Khan Yousafzai (PhD, Universiti Teknologi PETRONAS, Malaysia; Registered Engineer, Pakistan Engineering Council) is a faculty member in the Department of Civil Engineering at the University of Engineering and Technology (UET) Peshawar, specialising in pavement materials and highway engineering. He has been associated with UET Peshawar since 2011, initially on a contract basis and later as a regular faculty member since 2016. He proceeded on study leave in December 2021 under the Higher Education Commission (HEC) Overseas Scholarship Programme and successfully completed his PhD in March 2026.
His research expertise lies in pavement engineering with a focus on sustainable asphalt materials and highway infrastructure development. His work centres on Hot Mix Asphalt incorporating Waste Tyre Metal Fibre as a sustainable construction material, with emphasis on mix design optimisation and performance evaluation through Marshall Stability and Indirect Tensile Fatigue Test (ITFT). His research contributes to the development of durable and sustainable pavement solutions by utilising waste-derived materials to enhance structural performance and environmental sustainability.
During his doctoral studies, he also contributed to teaching and academic development at Universiti Teknologi PETRONAS, serving as a Graduate Teaching Assistant for undergraduate courses including Highway Engineering and Geomatics, and participating in laboratory instruction and student supervision. He was actively involved in curriculum development, Outcome-Based Education (OBE), and accreditation-related academic activities. His international exposure includes collaboration with researchers from multiple countries, participation in technical workshops and training programmes, and ongoing research collaboration with Shizuoka Institute of Science and Technology, Japan. He also gained industry exposure through technical visits to organisations such as Jabatan Kerja Raya (JKR), Malaysia, and Sunway Quarry, Penang.
His work is closely aligned with sustainable infrastructure development, particularly the reuse of waste tyre materials in asphalt systems, offering practical solutions to both environmental challenges and pavement performance improvement. He continues to engage in research, teaching, and international academic collaboration upon his return to UET Peshawar.
