Prof. Dr. Afzal Khan

Professor

Prof. Dr. Afzal Khan is a distinguished academician and researcher in the field of Mechanical Engineering serving as Professor with over three decades of academic, administrative, and research experience, Dr. Khan has made significant contributions to advanced materials, corrosion science, biomimetics, robotics, and mechanical system design.

He earned his D.Sc. and MS in Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering as a fellow of The George Washington University, USA, where he also worked a a postdoctoral scientist at the Center for Biomimetics and Bioinspired Engineering. His early academic foundation was laid at UET Peshawar, where he completed his B.Sc. in Mechanical Engineering. Prof. Khan has played a key role in shaping engineering education and research in Pakistan. He has supervised multiple Ph.D. and postgraduate theses and has published extensively in high-impact journals across materials science, sustainable systems, and smart structures. His work has attracted national and international research funding from organizations including ASHRAE, SNGPL, and NSF USA.

In addition to his academic endeavors, Dr. Khan holds several leadership and advisory roles. He remained a member of the Pakistan Engineering Council Governing Body, member Syndicate, member Senate, advisor to postgraduate programs, Chairman SNGPL Lab, and part of multiple technical, evaluation, and academic committees at provincial and national levels. He also served as the Chief Editor of the Journal of Engineering and Applied Sciences at UET Peshawar. He is serving as Provost UET, Peshawar. Driven by a passion for innovation, sustainability, and academic excellence, Prof. Dr. Afzal Khan continues to be a prominent figure in advancing engineering research and education in Pakistan and beyond.
